The Gokyo Lakes trek follows the classic Everest route as far as Namche Bazaar, then turns off into the quieter Gokyo valley. The trail runs beside the Dudh Koshi river and climbs past the Ngozumpa glacier, the longest glacier in the Himalaya, to a chain of high-altitude lakes with an unforgettable blue-green colour.
The highlight is the climb to Gokyo Ri at about 5,357 m, where the panorama takes in Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Cho Oyu. Compared with the Base Camp trek this route is less crowded and, many trekkers say, offers better views of the highest peaks.
This is a demanding trek at serious altitude. We build in acclimatisation days and keep the pace gentle, and your guide will check everyone every day.
