Do I need a visa to visit Nepal?

Most nationalities can get a tourist visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu or at the main land borders, or apply online before travelling. Indian citizens do not need a visa. Fees and rules change from time to time, so check the Department of Immigration of Nepal before you fly. We are happy to help with the details once you book.

When is the best time to visit Nepal?

Spring (March to May) and autumn (late September to November) are the main seasons, with clear mountain views and stable weather for trekking. Winter (December to February) is cold in the mountains but good for lower treks and touring. The monsoon (June to August) brings rain and cloud, though it is a green, quiet time for cultural tours and Upper Mustang.

Do I need trekking experience?

Not for every trek. Short routes such as Ghorepani Poon Hill and Ghandruk suit first-time trekkers with reasonable fitness. Longer high-altitude treks such as Everest Base Camp, the Annapurna Circuit or Manaslu are best for people who walk regularly and can manage several long days in a row. Tell us about your experience and we will suggest the right trek.

How do you deal with altitude sickness?

Our itineraries climb gradually and include acclimatisation days on high treks. Your guide watches for symptoms every day, adjusts the pace when needed and will arrange a descent if anyone becomes unwell. Drinking plenty of water and walking slowly are the best prevention.

What permits do I need for trekking?

Most treks need a national park or conservation area permit, and some regions such as Upper Mustang and Manaslu need a special restricted-area permit. We arrange all the permits your itinerary requires.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes. Your insurance should cover trekking at the maximum altitude of your trip and emergency helicopter evacuation. Please bring a copy of your policy details.

What is included in the trip price?

Each trip page lists exactly what is included and excluded, such as hotels, guides, permits, domestic flights and meals. International flights, insurance and personal expenses are not included.

Can you customise a trip for us?

Yes. We plan private trips for couples, families and groups, and can change the dates, length, hotels and pace of any itinerary on our website.

Can I combine Nepal with Bhutan, India or the Maldives?

Yes. Many travellers add a few days in Bhutan, a Golden Triangle tour in India or a beach stay in the Maldives or Thailand. We plan the whole route from Kathmandu.
