Overview
The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek is the best short trek in Nepal for big Himalayan views with modest effort. Starting near Pokhara, the trail climbs stone staircases through terraced farmland and rhododendron forest to the hill village of Ghorepani.
Before dawn you walk up to Poon Hill (3,210 m), where the sun rises over a panorama of more than twenty peaks, including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre. The return loop passes through Tadapani and the Gurung village of Ghandruk, known for its stone houses and local museum.
With no high altitude and comfortable teahouse lodges, it suits first-time trekkers, families and anyone short on time. It can be walked in most months, though spring brings the rhododendrons into flower.
